What is PT-141?
PT-141, also known as Bremelanotide, is a synthetic peptide that is used to treat sexual dysfunction in men and women. While Viagra and Cialis, which are PDE-5 inhibitors that work to increase blood flow into the penis, PT-141 is a melanocortin, which works at the brain to increase sexual desire. PT-141 was originally studied to darken skin pigmentation and induce tanning. However, during the initial testing, patients noted a pleasant side effect – that it caused increased sexual arousal.

Is PT-141 FDA approved?
Yes, PT-141 is FDA approved as Vylessi. I did a local search of pharmacy prices in Columbia, SC and it costs around $4600 at most places for just 6 doses. You can research this yourself by downloading the free “GoodRX” app or calling your local pharmacy. It’s FDA approved for hypoactive sexual desire in women and has shown to be beneficial for low libido in males and females.
How do I take PT-141?
PT-141 is easily injected under the skin of the abdomen or thigh 1-6 hours prior to anticipated sexual activity. A subcutaneous (SQ) injection is a tiny insulin-type needle that is super easy to use. Nasal sprays and orally dissolving tablets have been developed but not researched as much. They are not preferred or indicated to work as well but I offer them because some people still swear by them and refuse to do the little injection.
What are the possible side effects of PT-141?
The number one side effect is nausea and can occur in up to 40% of people. This is why you should start at a low dose (1mg) to see how you tolerate it. Zofran (anti-nausea medication) may help if you pre-treat with it. Additionally, facial flushing with a feeling of warmth and facial redness may occur or a mild headache. High blood pressure is associated with the nasal spray but only very mild with the injections. As with any injection, local site injection irritation may occur. Discoloration of the skin, specifically hyperpigmentation, may occur—especially if PT-141 is used more than eight times in one month. The discoloration may not resolve upon stopping the use of PT-141 and may occur on the face, gums, or breasts. Experiments in animals, even at high doses, failed to find any negative consequence on fertility.

“I had a Vyleesi injection in my leg because of my libido problems. I felt like I was going to puke but only for a few seconds. I waited 45 min then headed to my boyfriend's house. By the time I got to his house I was keen for some action! We did it for what felt like forever and I was on a never-ending orgasm. This sex serum stayed in my system all night! He's asleep at 3 am and I'm over here about to give him the best wake-up call of his life. Take a little pain in the leg for some amazing pleasure.” -Yodeler101
“Really wanted to want it again like we were in our 20s before the stress of kids, money, and work piled up. It worked amazing. I was told a large number of people experience nausea but it was minor.” -likebunnies
“Every woman and possibly men should know about Vyleesi. Easy to use, results were more than we expected. Highly Recommended” -DC
“It did work quite well but caused a headache after an hour or so, which subsided after a couple of hours.”-Murphy
“A true lifesaver. 10 out of 10. Thank you!” -Anonymous
“I was prescribed this drug after a discussion with my doctor. I have been in a dead bedroom. It has been difficult with my husband. I love him but I want to be physically connected as well. After taking the shot and waiting I felt more aroused than I have in years. My husband and I ended up having intercourse three times. I felt some redness but feeling physical desire again is such a relief.” -Everyday health, anonymous
“I almost immediately had warmth and facial redness but it only lasted maybe 20-30 minutes and less the next time I tried it. That didn’t bother me much. I also had a mild headache and so never titrated up past 1mg. It still seemed to work. The thing it seems to do (to me) directly stimulates your clit which then makes your brain very aware of that and thus desire goes up. Orgasms are better too though. I know they say it stimulates the brain but I’m telling you, it stimulates your clit. In studies, I read that men were having spontaneous erections which are how they even figured out it works for sexual desire, so some mechanism is working on genitals directly too, it seems to me..”-Margie S.
What are my options?
PT-141 SQ injection
You get 20mg and the dose to start is 1mg. Women usually need up to 2mg, which is the max dose. So you get up to 20 doses. You should not take more than 10 dosages a month to prevent skin darkening as a side effect. $300. Make an appointment.
PT - 141 Nasal Spray
You get a bottle of nose spray that has up to 30 sprays. The dose is 2-6 sprays, so this one doesn’t carry you as far. It’s also probably less effective and it costs more! I recommend the injections. $300. Make an appointment.
PT-141 Orally dissolving tablets
This is a combination tablet with Tadalafil (Cialis) and Oxytocin (the love hormone) added to enhance the response. This PT-141 Combo of Tadalafil/PT-141/Oxytocin is $300 for 10 doses. Make an appointment.
What else can I try that will help with sexual desire?
Topical arousal creams for women can be very effective and additionally enhance your sexual experience tremendously. The topicals I’ve seen OTC (over the counter) are only one active ingredient, maybe two, and highly costly. I have two options and mine are prescription only and come from reputable compounding pharmacies.

How does the cream work?
The ingredients work synergistically to enhance blood flow to the area it's applied upon. As a vasodilator it is able to improve sensitivity and rates of orgasm. The products can also work together to increase lubrication in the area of use. You should apply the cream directly to your clitoris.

What are the side effects of arousal creams?
This is a topical medication and side effects are uncommon. Some patients may feel a warmth, redness, or a tingling sensation which is normal.

How long does it take to work?
This medication should start taking effect between 5-30 minutes after application. The effects may last between 30 minutes and 2 hours.
