Vitamin D Injections
Why do people take Vitamin D injections? How does it help you?
People generally supplement with Vitamin D when yearly physical lab work includes a Vitamin D level blood check and they find out that they are low. Otherwise, it’s hard to even know. Vitamin D helps regulate the amount of calcium and phosphate in the body. These nutrients are needed to keep bones, teeth, and muscles healthy. A lack of Vitamin D can lead to bone deformities and bone pain. Increasingly, research is revealing the importance of vitamin D in protecting against a host of health problems such as depression, the flu or illness, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, and cancer. It also may help with weight loss. Most recently vitamin D is being studied and indicated for protection with COVID-19.
Who has Vitamin D deficiencies and why?
Being indoors and isolated by COVID hasn't helped, but our nation is and was already struggling with Vitamin D deficiency issues prior to this past year. The vast majority of Americans feel that they should have normal Vitamin D due to sun exposure and dietary intake, yet they still come back as having very low levels. Without supplementation, the odds are just not in your favor. Vitamin D is made by the body when the skin is exposed to sunlight. Being indoors and isolated due to COVID-19 has placed our nation at increased risk of having low vitamin d levels. Vitamin D is extracted from the blood by fat cells, altering its release into the circulation. People with a body mass index of 30 or greater often have low blood levels of Vitamin D. Also, sunscreen, protective clothing, dark skin, and age may prevent getting enough vitamin D from the sun.
What are the possible side effects of taking supplemental Vitamin D?

The most common reason people experience severe side effects associated with vitamin D is taking excessive amounts. This causes an increase in blood calcium. Some early symptoms that someone is experiencing Vitamin D toxicity include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weakness, excessive thirst, an altered level of consciousness, high blood pressure, and kidney failure or hearing loss may also develop. This is rare, but Vitamin D toxicity can be dangerous. If you experience Vitamin D toxicity, it may take a few months for the issue to resolve because the excess vitamin D is stored in fat. Other possible side effects to be aware of include fatigue and sleepiness, headaches, loss of appetite, a dry mouth, and a metallic taste in the mouth. It’s important to monitor blood Vitamin D levels when using supplemental Vitamin D.

How do I get started on Vitamin D therapy?
Get your vitamin d level checked first. I can send a lab order in for you and you can pay the lab or use your health insurance. Another option is that I can order it and pay for it ahead of time and just charge you $50. In this instance, all you have to do is take the requisition form they email you to your local LabCorp location to have it drawn. It's an expensive lab test so I like to give you options as to how and where you get it. If your vitamin D level is under 50 then we can discuss supplementation.
What is the dosage of Vitamin D that you supply?
Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) Intramuscular Injection (5cc) 500,000IU In the vial. I like dosing 1/2cc (50,000IU) once a month. This is conservative but more than adequate therapy for most people. I see no need to blast your vitamin D levels higher than they need to be. The key with most all things in life is moderation. We can discuss alternative dosing individually. This regimen will treat you for a year as it supplies you with one injection once a month for 10 months. I advise (but don't require) you to recheck your vitamin D level after starting supplementation.
What’s the cost?
The cost is $150 and it should hold you for a year. That comes out to $12.50 a month for a year of Vitamin D supplementation. That’s cheaper (and easier) than buying and taking oral capsules every day! One easy injection a month for 10 months to cover you for a year! I send syringes and needles at no extra cost to you.
